Dr. Rebekah Zee
Welcome to Dr. Rebekah Zee, Obstetrician/Gynecologist at St. Martha’s Hospital.
Dr. Zee started in January 2020 but originally came for locums here from September to December 2019 and decided to stick around. “Originally I thought I thought I would try locums at many places. But when I started here I ended up not booking locums anywhere else. I decided that I wanted to be here full time.”
Dr. Zee grew up in Bedford NS. She did her med school at Dal and then was in Ottawa for 5 years for her residency. Her husband, Jordan, is an avid hunter and fisherman. Currently he is living in Wolfville but they have plans to move together to Antigonish in the next year or so.
Dr. Zee says “My impression overall - we always tell the story that when I first came here, I was just blown away by how friendly and nice and genuine everyone was. And even when my husband visited, we joke because he was asking - is everyone just on their best behavior because they're trying to recruit you? But over time it's actually that people are super nice here. And in terms of the local physicians here, they're quite personable and very friendly and reached out to both myself and my husband.” She added “I feel that in a place that's larger, it's a bit harder to get those personal connections.”
“I feel really lucky that we're now fully staffed in the Ob/Gyn Dept and that our personalities really mulled together. We still have our different styles and it just works.”
When I’m not working, “Before COVID hit, I had gone once to pickle ball and I enjoyed it. Eventually when things are picking up, I would look at doing pickleball again.” During the shut down we have started experimenting a little more food-wise. Because my I'm half Chinese, when I was growing up we ate a lot of Asian food. So we've kind of been experimenting with some homemade recipes and trying to recreate things that I enjoyed in my childhood.”
“I've kind of been like gradually exposed over the last six years [through my husband] to enjoy all these outdoor more rural activities. I know that Antigonish is a very safe place. It's a fairly quiet place, in terms of raising a family and it has all of the things that I like to do and the things that my husband loves to do.”
